Oh Summer. After spring, it’s the next best season. A time of warm weather, sunshine, sundresses, sandals, ice cream, and water activities is sure to be a good one. While summertime can feel like the moment to put all business on halt, there’s a case for leaning into this season for your marketing. Here are 5 ways to make the most of your summer marketing content.  

Align with Holidays

With summer comes a handful of fun holidays. Of course there are the unofficial start and end to summer: Memorial Day and Labor Day. In between there is Father’s Day and Independence Day. Seasonal, holiday marketing gives your business a fresh, new twist and a reason for customers to engage with you. Are there summer deals you can offer? Can you treat dad to something special if he visits your business on Father’s Day? Are there packages you can offer exclusively for Independence Day? Can you decorate your store to bring in some summer fun?

Play on Summer Fun

Speaking of summer fun, no matter how old you are, summertime always feels like playtime. We all channel our inner kid-out-of-school-on-summer break vibe, even if we’re still going to work. There’s just something about the season that makes us all slow down, take a break, and get outside to have some fun. Play into this. Think about ways you can encourage summer fun in your place of business. Use bright, colorful imagery. Give reasons for your customers to play. 

Summer Themed Event Marketing

The majority of events typically fall in the spring or fall, as that’s typically when the weather is at its all-time best. Use this to your advantage to plan a fun summer event instead. You’ll have less competition for publicity and foot traffic, and you can play into a theme unlike any other time of the year. How about a field day or cookout? Water polo competition? Unique events like these can make your brand stand out. 

Summer Photography

Update your marketing photography to include summer vibes. Think sunglasses and hats. Shorts and tank tops. Lots of greenery and sunshine. It’ll help people relate to your brand and message and display creative new content worth sharing. Go a step further and host a summer photo contest. Give people an excuse to get outside and play around. Send people on a scavenger hunt. Have customers take selfies with your product and popsicles. 

Use Downtime Wisely

If summer is typically a slower season for you, then use the downtime to refresh your marketing and play around with new ideas. Are there new trends you can capitalize on? What new features on social media could really boost your visibility? Are there creative contests you could implement on a regular basis to drive traffic? When back-to-school hits and fall gets busy, you may not have time to experiment.

Whatever your plans this season, know that summer is a live season that people want to dive in and experience to the fullest. Taking advantage of this opportunity can create goodwill, increase brand awareness, and drive your traffic and sales.
